Child & Adolescent Mental Health
Taeaomanino is contracted to provide a confidential, counselling community mental health service for Pacific children and adolescents between 0-19 years who reside in the Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti Coast. This service is a non-clinical service which works alongside Child Adolescent Mental Health Services provided by Capital and Coast District Health Board.
About the Service
The Youth 2007 Survey and Ministry of Health data show that Pacific young people are approximately twice as likely to have depression, be anxious, or to make suicide attempts, compared with the rest of the youth population. Pacific young people are approximately half as likely as European young people to be hospitalised for depression or a suicide attempt.

We believe that early identification and intervention is critical and can lead to improved achievement in school and better health outcomes in life.

The four stages of our interventions:
-
The initial referral – Families or friends, agency or workplace, or the potential service user make the initial call or referral to TT CAMHS Service (please refer to our ‘Contact’ page). Referrals can be sent to: office@taeaomanino.org.nz. Alternatively please call for an assessment for your situation: (04) 2376062.
-
The pre-intervention – Once we receive your referral, the referral will be recorded and assessed against our service entry criteria, and if criteria are met, it will be allocated to the most appropriate CAMHS counsellor who will organise to meet with the service user/family. We will contact you to arrange an initial face-to-face meeting with one of our highly trained and qualified counsellors.
-
The intervention – This includes rapport building, CAMHS comprehensive assessment, care plan formulation, intervention, discharge, refer on to other services within and outside of TT.We work with you from an eclectic approach and in collaboration with Health Pasifika to meet your needs. We offer a minimum of 8–12 sessions. Some of the commonly used models we use include: Te Whare Tapa Wha, Fonofale, Sei Tapu, Motivational Interviewing, Client Centred Practice, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Existential Therapy, Solution Focus and Narrative Therapy.
-
Post intervention: Our aftercare plan helps you get connected to the appropriate resources and other internal/external services to help you build support. Our CAMHS counsellor will also stay connected with you and make sure that you are well supported when exiting our services.
