About the Service

Family Centred Services are intended to help families and aiga/whanau become safe places to be. This involves delivering culturally effective services to families and aiga/whanau, helping them access any additional professional help they may need, and assisting them to draw on the informal supports available in their wider family, wha-nau and community.

Our intention is that:

  • their needs are met through wrap-around support which is effective, holistic, culturally appropriate and responsive

  • they become strong and resilient, and able to identify their own ways to restore safety and wellbeing/mauri ora

  • lasting, positive change is achieved for them through the support of family, aiga/whanau and the wider community

  • they experience measurable, positive change over time, and less repeat family violence
the wider hapu-, iwi and community are strengthened, so they can offer effective help
and do not tolerate anti-social practices and behaviours that lead to family violence.

Services
Family-Centred Services include a wide range of activities and include:

  • working with families and aiga/whanau to identify their issues and solutions

  • strengthening family and aiga/whanau participation and connections co-ordinating wrap-around services

  • providing post-crisis and long-term support

The 4 stages of our interventions:

  1. The initial referral – Families or friends, agency or workplace, or the potential service user make the initial call or referral to TT Family & Individual Counselling Service (Please our “contact us” page).  Referrals can be sent to: office@taeaomanino.org.nz. Alternatively please call for an assessment for your situation: (04) 237 6062.

  2. The Pre-intervention – Once we receive your referral, the referral will be recorded and assessed against our service entry criteria, and if criteria are met, it will be allocated to the most appropriate Family Violence Counsellor who will organise to meet with the service user/family.  We will contact you to arrange a first face to face contact with one of our highly trained and qualified Counsellors.

  3. The intervention – This include rapport building, Family Violence comprehensive assessment, care plan formulation, intervention, discharge, refer on to other services within and outside of TT.  We work with you from an eclectic approach and in collaboration with internal/external services to meet your needs.  We offer a minimum of 12 sessions.  Some of the commonly used models we use include: Te Whare Tapa Wha, Fonofale, Sei Tapu, Motivational Interviewing, Client Centred Practice, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Existential, Solution Focus and Narrative Therapy.

  4. Post Intervention: Our aftercare plan helps you to get connected to the appropriate resources and other internal/external services to help you build support. Our Family Violence counsellors will also stay connected with you and make sure that you are well supported when exiting our services.
